The South Loop congregation is organized in accordance with the scriptures.
Note the scripture references:
Acts 14:23 And when they had appointed for them elders in every church and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.
Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave thee charge;
Our congregation is blessed in having two men serving as our shepherds:
Darrell Glover
Darrell is retired from a steam electric station where he worked as a safety specialist. He brings his skills and experience from this position to his work as a shepherd here at the South Loop church of Christ. His wisdom and firm but compassionate nature are just two of the characteristics that help him guide the flock so well. Darrell and his wife Nina live in the Beaukiss area.
Gregg Stroud
Gregg is an independent heavy equipment operator. His great love for his family and friends give him a benevolent and big-hearted attitude towards those of the flock which he shepherds. He is easy to talk to and warmhearted which makes him easy for one of his sheep to come to him when they have a problem or need. Gregg and his wife Brenda live just south of Taylor in Coupland, TX.
The difference in these men’s experiences makes it easier for them to relate to the flock.
The terms of shepherds, elders, bishops, pastors/overseers all relate to the office these men are holding. These are not titles, but rather descriptors of the work they do.
The qualifications of these men are described in:
I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
The work of these men is described in:
Acts 20:28-31a, I Peter 5:2-3 and Hebrews 13:17b.
The proper attitude of this congregation (the qualifications of a congregation with elders) toward these men is described in:
I Thessalonians 5:12-13, I Timothy 5:19-20 and
Hebrews 13:7, 17.
